 Regatta Chiropractic and Laser Center welcomes our newest team member Carla Johnson. Carla is a certified chiropractic physician’s assistant with over 20 years of experience in case history, diagnostic testing and more.

A chiropractic assistant is certified to help out the chiropractor with case history, diagnostic testing and therapeutic procedures. Carla works alongside of Dr. Hogan and will assist with Zerona treatment, patient’s exercises and electric stimulation. 

Carla has worked with many other chiropractors in the Destin area such as the male chiropractor Dr. Hogan and 20 years under Dr. Sheldon.

The Activator

Occasionally, guests under chiropractic care may feel concerned about the pops and clicks they hear during an adjustment. For these guests, we have the option of using a unique, hand-held tool, the activator.

The word chiropractic literally means “by hand”. This is why the majority of chiropractic care is preformed by hand. The popping sound heard by an adjustment done by hand is air and gas as the chiropractor is unlocking the segments and releasing pressure from the joint. For our patients who are not comfortable with those sounds, we use the activator.

The activator is an extremely effective tool that is spring loaded and faster than any adjustment done by hand. This tool is most commonly used on children and those with osteoporosis and anyone in between.

Chiropractic Table

At Regatta Chiropractic and Laser Center in Destin, Florida, chiropractor Dr. Shawna Hogan prides herself on practicing informative chiropractic care. In her latest YouTube video, Dr. Hogan explains the benefits and methods behind the office’s chiropractic adjustment table. 

The chiropractic adjustment table is designed to accommodate all patients, even expectant mothers. The table allows for patients to lie in a position that relaxes their body and allows for adjustments to be made quickly and painlessly.

The table adjusts up and down for a variety of heights, and the middle section of the table can lower separately to adjust and accommodate pregnant women. Not only that, but the table can move up and down in sync to allow the body to stretch. Most of the time, patients feel taller after this stretching!

To Ice or Not to Ice?

Patients ask me all the time, should I use ice or heat when it hurts? Well, there is no clear cut answer but when in doubt, Ice it out... Icing on/ off for 15-20 minutes will help reduce the local inflammation that is often causing pain.

However... if it is the same old pain that has ailed you for years and you have not had a recent flare up where it is now worse and ice is not cutting it, try MOIST heat. No electric heating pads!

Here is a great way to wake up tomorrow feeling less like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz:

1.  Soak in a warm bath with Epsom salt for 15-20 minutes. The Magnesium in the Epsom salt acts as a natural muscle relaxant

2.   Because we have brought blood to the area with the heat of the bath, now we want to constrict the tissue to push the fluid out so now Ice the painful area for 15-20 minutes

3.  Apply a topical natural anti-inflammatory such as Cryoderm. By staying ahead of the inflammation you will wake up with less pain.

Allergy Season

Allergy season is upon us. 

Here are a few things to consider:

  Netti Pot: The Netti Pot is an excellent way to combat those bothersome allergies. It is an ancient method for flushing debris from nasal passage so that the body does not need to produce as much mucus.

 Mucus: Mucus is produced in response to irritation that often arises from inflammation from something like an allergic response.

Consider Chiropractic Care: While not a treatment for sinus issues, chiropractic care can help to reduce the nervous system interference to the head and sinuses.

 Local Honey: Local honey contains pollen from local plants and trees. When you introduce it, the body’s natural response is to have a slight immune reaction to it so next time you encounter that same pollen you are already armed against it..  Remember, no honey for those two years and under as their immune systems are still not developed enough.
